Water use at your property
Use cistern readings and delivery records to work out how much water you use and when to order more.
Start with two readings
Record the date, starting volume and ending volume. Log every municipal or pipa refill during the period. Water used = starting volume + incoming water − ending volume. Divide by elapsed days to estimate average daily use.
Suppose you start with 4,000 L, receive 2,000 L and finish with 3,000 L. The calculation is 4,000 + 2,000 − 3,000 = 3,000 L used. Over six days, the average for that period is 500 L per day. Your own use may differ.
Match the record to occupancy
Mark guest stays, irrigation, pool filling, cleaning and occupancy changes. Compare similar periods before interpreting a change as a leak. If incoming water is missing from the record, the use calculation is incomplete.
Plan the next delivery
Work out when to order from your daily use, current volume, the reserve you want to keep and the lead time your supplier confirms. Check free space before ordering a volume and again before unloading.
